Often The Benefits
of Meditation Go Unrecognized
With all of the
stresses we experience in the modern world, don't you sometimes
wish there were a way to set your mind at ease? Don't you wish
for a reprieve from the day to day worries that besiege us all?
The idea of meditation may evoke strange images of guys walking
on nails or sending themselves into unfamiliar territory.
Although meditation techniques may seem to constitute odd or
fringe behavior, the benefits of meditation have been proven to
solve many an emotional and physical discomfort.
Meditation involves a focusing of your mind on intangible ideas
and spiritual concepts. To realize the benefits of meditation,
you must embrace the philosophy of pure thought versus the
material world.
One of the benefits of meditation techniques is the successful
disengagement of your mind from the everyday world. If you turn
to tonight's news program, you'll find that all is not well with
the world. On a smaller scale, your worries about the phone bill
may intrude on your thoughts and distract you from spiritual
concerns and matters of the heart. So which is more important?
Yes, you need to pay your phone bill, but then again your soul
yearns for peace and comfort.
A personal meditation program can take away your worries and
give you the freedom of just being happy, to be at peace. The
benefits of meditation cannot be overstated.
The term, “meditation” sometimes brings to mind a strange
individual following some strange dictates of a strange cult.
This is an unfortunate interpretation, as the benefits of
meditation can be immense, given the proper setting and
practice.
There are many meditation techniques you may employ, to bring
relief from everyday worries, while stilling your mind and
bringing peace to your soul.
When you're feeling anxious, disturbed or just plain overwhelmed
with the stresses of life, take a moment to still your soul.
Make an active effort to toss these worries aside and focus your
mind's thoughts on the beautiful side of life. Call to mind the
moments that fill you with joy. Close your eyes and think of a
world filled with peace and free of worries.
Meditation is a mix of a prayer and intellectual introspection.
To achieve the full benefits of meditation, you should disengage
yourself from the material world. The benefits of meditation are
somewhat illusory in nature, giving you a sense of peace and
equilibrium in a world of chaos.
Focus your consciousness on matters of the soul. Direct your
passion to the eternal thoughts. Practice meditation in this
manner and reap the benefits of meditation. Your spirit will be
lighter and your worldly worries will disappear.
Many people who meditate
regularly may know the benefits of meditation as far as their
spiritual well-being is concerned. People commonly use their time to
meditate to help them stay calm and focused and to promote a feeling
of relaxation. However, there are many health benefits of meditation
that may go unrecognized.
The general affect of this practice on the human body is beneficial
to the individual. One of the most outstanding benefits of
meditation is relaxation. Studies show that stress and anxiety can
lead to health problems. If an individual takes time to meditate on
a regular basis he will feel relaxed and calm.
The benefits of meditation involve lower levels of blood lactate
which is connected with the reduction of the number of panic attacks
in the individual. People who suffer from panic attacks can reap the
benefits of meditation that promote relaxation as well as chemical
balances that help regulate the nervous system and reduce stress.
People experiencing great periods of stress including life changing
episodes like the loss of a loved one or a divorce can use
meditative practices to help cope with their distress.
Some attribute this to one of the benefits of meditation that
involves an increase of serotonin production in the brain. Elevated
serotonin levels are known to help elevate mood. Too little
serotonin in a person’s system can lead to conditions like
depression, insomnia and obesity.
Meditative practices are known to slow the individual’s heart rate
while increasing blood flow. These are two of the benefits of
meditation that can help a person bring his blood pressure rate back
to normal with repeated practice. The increase in blood flow along
with the slower heart rate serves to lower blood pressure.
Researchers also suggest that some of the benefits of meditation
include an individual’s ability to fend off illnesses including
cancer. These studies recognize that the meditative process produces
cells that the body uses to kill bacteria, viruses and even cancer
cells. These benefits of mediation often go unnoticed by the general
public but they are quite important.
I know the benefits of meditation first hand because I started
engaging in the process while trying to recuperate from a car
accident. I suffered from severe lower back pain and muscle spasms.
These symptoms were accompanied by debilitating headaches as well as
weight gain and depression.
After a few months of following meditative routines each and every
day I made a full recovery. I also notice that I have an easier time
getting through the cold and flu season if I meditate on a regular
basis. My experience may not be scientific proof of the benefits of
meditation but it is enough for me to continue the practice.
